Most common factors to consider when choosing caster:
The first thing to consider in selecting the right caster is the combined weight of your equipment and the maximum load. To determine the load capacity for each caster, divide the combined weight of your equipment and the maximum load by the number of casters you are planning to use on your equipment. For example, your combined weight of your equipment and the maximum load is 1000 lbs, and you are planning to use 4 casters for your equipment, divide 1000 by 4 = 250. You should select a caster with 250 lbs capacity for this particular application. Although every SRC's caster has a safety load rating factor, we recommend that you always select casters and wheels that are rated for a capacity greater than the calculated load per caster.

Other factors to consider:
Rolling Ease: The rolling ease depends on the diameter of the wheel. The bigger the diameter, the easier the wheel will roll. A narrow hard crowned tread rolls easier than a flat soft tread.

Load Weight: The weight of the load also influences the mobility of the wheel. The heavier the load, the larger the wheel required for the caster.

Floor Conditions: Make sure the wheel you select is large enough to negotiate your particular floor conditions. This can be cracks in the floor, tracks, moldings and other obstacles.

If you are not sure of what casters to use for your equipment, seek help from a safety or engineering consultant who knows your equipment and its intended use to assist you.

Four swivel
This arrangement can be moved in any direction, forward, backward, and even sideway. This is the most versatile arrangement. Use full when there is little space to maneuver and side motion is frequently needed. Can also be used with ramps.
2x2 R
Two rigid two swivel

This configuration is recommended for straight line, long distance travel. The two swivel and two rigid casters give you easy control. Depending on the capacity of the casters, this configuration can be used for medium or heavy applications.
2x2 D
This configuration is great for maneuverability, the two swivel casters at each end allow you to better control the turn of your equipment. This configuration is not recommended for ramp use.
Four rigid tilt
This configuration is most economical, but should only be used with very light load. It is not recommended for ramp use.

2x4 tilt
Two rigid, four swivel
This configuration is usually used for a narrow and long tilt cart. The two rigid casters in the center are usually taller than the four swivel casters on the corners. This configuration is design to handle a heavier load with long trucks and still able to maneuver and steer easily. The two rigid casters help to distribute and reduce the load on the swivel units.
